SJA’s Torres earns second POTW award of the year

Brownsville St. Joseph do-it-all athlete Claudio Torres stuffed the stat sheet during a dominating win over the No. 1 Port Isabel Tarpons, earning him RGVSports.com Week 7 Player of the Week honors.

Torres finished the game with 332 total yards, five touchdowns, nine tackles, four tackles for loss and one forced fumble en route to his second POTW award of the season.

The Bloodhounds’ Swiss Army Knife could not be stopped during the team’s statement win over the previously unbeaten Tarpons, averaging 15.8 yards on 21 touches.

On the ground, Torres slashed his way through the Tarpons’ defense on his way to 255 yards and four touchdowns, his second 200-yard performance of the season.

He added four catches for 77 yards through the air, including a 60-yard catch-and-run for a touchdown in which he weaved through almost the entire Port Isabel defense.

Torres’ big night brings him to 1,664 total yards and 23 total touchdowns on the season. Also, he has added 49 tackles, eight tackles for loss, three interceptions, three forced fumbles and one sack.

The Bloodhounds’ playmaker leads his team into a bye week before kicking off TAPPS DII District 3 play at 7 p.m. Oct. 25 against Victoria St. Joseph at the STJ O’Connor Athletic Complex in Victoria.
